Get on the shaggin’ wagon to the shagadelic premiere event of the season, ‘Who Let the Dogs Out?’ Harbor Town Dog Show benefiting the Humane Society of Memphis and Shelby County on November 8, noon-4 p.m. in Harbor Town’s Nursery Park.
This year’s theme is a 70’s psychedelic groovy trip featuring competitions for “Most Jive” (least obedient), “Most Foxy” (most glamorous), ”Most Cool Cat” (best rescue dog), “Most Far Out Treads” (most original costume), “Twinsies” (look-a-like), “Groovy Moves” (best tail wagging), “Coolest Trickster” (best trick/most obedient) and “Best Ride” (best float/group). New this year is the first ever Doggie Lip Sync Battle hosted by Henry Nelson (he is authorized to hand out the Nelson awards) as well as the returning Doggie Disco Dance Off competition with Disco Diva Paula Raiford.
Celebrity judges will include Ron Olson of FM-100, Jack Kenner the celebrity photographer, George Klein the disc jockey, television host, and childhood friend of Elvis Presley, Bianca Phillips of Memphis Flyer and Cookin’ Crunk fame, Memphis Community Yelper extrodanaire Joelle Pittman, and Barbara Blue queen of the blues on Beale Street.
Celebrity mistress of ceremonies, Kym Clark of Action News 5 fame will be making an appearance for the twelfth year.
Last year Clark helped the Harbor Town community raise record funds for the Humane Society. Included in those funds was the live auction sale of an original painting by local artist Betsy Bird. A unique piece of art styled to the show’s changing theme is created by Bird and sold during the live auction every year. This year’s art features a tie-dyed canine friend complete with a royal winning crown. DJ GregG of MatchlessMedia will keep the groove flowing & news personality Andrew Kozak of WMC-5 will be the auctioneer.
Truly a local event, top sponsor is Memphis Veterinary Specialists. Hollywood Feed is also generously donating prizes and gifts for the winning dogs and their respective humans. Downtown Animal Hospital and Main Street Dental are also Lead Sponsors.
